The trip changed the course of Browne's life as Persia, and most particularly its literature and politics, became "the central object of his studies and the absorbing interest of his life". His description of that trip, A Year Amongst the Persians (1893), is "among the foremost classics of travel in English literature".The same trip also provided the basis for A Traveller's Narrative written to illustrate the episode of the Bab (1891) and The new history of Mirza Ali Muhammad (1893). Browne's multivolume Literary History of Persia until the time of Firdausi was, for many years, "the standard authority on the subject". (DNB)
