Robert William Buchanan [1841-1901] Scottish poet, playwright and novelist. Buchanan began his literary career in London at the Athenaeum and in 1871 he achieved notoriety with a pseudonymous article in the Contemporary Review attacking Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelites. After a bitter controversy, he withdrew his charge and dedicated his novel "God and Man" to Rossetti. The above travel account is one of Buchanan's best efforts, providing vivid sketches of a yachting tour of the Hebrides.
