The book is divided into six sections: Western Switzerland; Eastern Switzerland; The Upper Rhine; The Middle Rhine and Main; The Great Rhine Gorge and The Lower Rhine. The author states in his preface that "during a very long period, Switzerland and the Alps have been among the most beautiful regions sought by millions of tourists from all parts of the world. They display the greatest scenic attractions of Europe in their grandest form, and especially for American visitors have a special charm........in going or coming, the noble Rhine, the Great river of the German Fatherland, is usually followed, up or down, and thus becomes a part of the popular Swiss tour....."
